Terms of use
Last updated: June 18, 2026
These terms govern your use of Sift, an open-source HTTP capture viewer ("the Software"). By installing or using the Software, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
License
The Software is released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute it under the terms of that license, which accompanies the source code at github.com/jacksonfdam/Sift. These terms of use do not replace the MIT License; where they touch the same subject, the MIT License governs your rights in the code.
No warranty
The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You use it at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from, out of, or in connection with the Software or its use.
Acceptable use
You are responsible for the capture files you open and for your right to view their contents. Captures often contain credentials, tokens, and personal data. Sift masks common secrets by default, but you remain responsible for handling captures, revealed values, and exported files appropriately and lawfully.
What the Software does not do
Sift is a read-only viewer. It does not capture, proxy, intercept, decrypt, or modify network traffic, and it provides no guarantee that masking will catch every sensitive value in every capture. Review exports before sharing them.
Third-party names
Sift is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the makers of Fiddler or Charles, or by Google. "Fiddler", "Charles", "Chrome", and other product names are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility and the file formats the Software can open.
Changes
These terms may be updated; the date above reflects the latest version. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
